Friends, I’ve been blogging for one year now. One entire year might not seem like very long, but My. Oh. My. I have learned a lot!
In fact, there will be an upcoming post on the many blogging lessons I’ve learned soon!
But today, I’m announcing a blog redesign of sorts. And I am SO EXCITED!
You see, throughout the past year, I’ve try this and that, kind of throwing spaghetti at the wall, to see what sticks. I still have a lot to learn, but I have figured out some things.
My focus when I first started my blog a year ago was to promote an intentional lifestyle and to empower women to be courageous in their decisions to put their families first, even when it’s not the most popular thing to do. My original tag line was, “Encouragement for Inspired and Intentional Living!”
My new tag line is, “Unapologetically Living Your Purpose!” The premise is to define your purpose, according to the Word, then live it out like God is your only audience!
Let it Shine!
At the very beginning, my husband suggested that I include a Bible verse in each and every post, and I loved that idea. I’m sticking with that, but you’ll notice a definite shift in my future content to be much more Bible-based on the posts themselves, and I’ll be much freer in speaking about how God actively guides my choices and lifestyle. Because at the end of the day, human wisdom only goes so far! This has always been my belief and philosophy, but I want to be a bit clearer about that in the future.
Every good blogger should be directing their posts to a target audience, a specific avatar, so to speak. It’s very important to define your avatar and then stick to what she wants to hear and learn about. I’ve attempted to do that from the beginning, but only more recently has my understanding of my target avatar deepened. I realize that my own friends and family may or not be my avatar, and that means that they may or may not be interested in my blog content. And that’s ok! There may be just a handful of women who fit my avatar’s description in each church or community group. My goal is to create quality content that caters to my avatar’s needs and interests and not worry about reaching each and every person I happen to know. Who needs that kind of pressure?!
I invite anyone to read my blog, but my super-specific avatar has the following characteristics:
- Christ-seeking wife and mother;
- Desire to be busy at home;
- Desire to be involved in her local church and reach out to the marginalized and under-served in her local community;
- Industrious (Proverbs 31) in ways to earn an income, albeit perhaps not in the traditional workforce;
- Willing to slow down and be present in the seemingly mundane homemaking tasks, as an act of service to her family and to God;
- Interested in promoting education by the parents, not just by the Sunday School teachers at church, or classroom teachers at school;
- Respects Biblical submission in marriage;
- Interested in mentoring younger moms and learning from more experienced Christian women;
- Desire to implement a measure of creative resourcefulness in the family’s budget;
- “Gets” modest fashion; and finally…
- Realizes that her strongest and most stable source of encouragement comes from reading the Bible!
Another change you may notice is that in future posts, although I may make reference to my Norwex, E-bay and Super Bundle sales opportunities, as well as using spot ads, I won’t be making direct sales pitches in the blog posts themselves, as I’d been doing in 2017. I had to give it a try, but it’s just not me.
Blog Category Menu:
You’ll also notice that I’ve updated my blog categories in the primary menu:
You’ll be reminded of the reasons you cook, clean and care for your home and family! It’s not an obligation or an oppression; it is a true act of service to God!
Pour Into Your Family:
You’ll become re-energized to not grow weary in cultivating a “Kingdom Culture” within your own home! We have our kiddos at home for a (relatively!) short period of time before they go to college or move out. This is the time to seize the opportunity to train them up right!
You’ll rediscover contentment with the resources that God has blessed you with! You have more than you think…!
Encouragement For You:
You’ll find Bible-based encouragement to be the best wife and mother you can be!
Browse My Shops:
You’ll find links to my Norwex and E-bay shops here! Browse at your leisure and let me know how I can help!
I also updated my blog’s mission on the left-hand side of the blog homepage to better reflect my purpose in writing.
“Welcome to Accounting My Blessings! I’m Sarah, a child of God, wife and mother. I started this blog to promote a lifestyle of unapologetically living your purpose while in the throes of a seemingly chaotic world. It can be done! I hope you find encouragement to stay in the Word, pour into your husband and kids, cultivate a “Kingdom Culture” within your own home, and to be content with the resources you have been blessed with!”
In addition, I’ve reworked my “About Me” page. It’s more descriptive and hopefully more relatable this time around! Use this link to check it out!
SEO and Social Media:
Another choice I’ve made is to strive to simplify the formatting and SEO of my blog images in each post, as well as shorten the length of my posts, in an effort to post more frequently and not become burned out in the process!
So far, Accounting My Blessings is on Facebook, Pinterest and Instagram. I’m still on the fence as to if I’ll keep trying to keep up with all of this promoting…this part of the story is still being written!
I believe these are the major changes! Blogging is so fun! I love reading other blogs (check out the ones I love most here!) and I love creating content on my own blog!
Thank you for following along! Please comment below if you’re my avatar and would like to see something in particular!
“My goal is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.” Colossians 2: 2, 3
