This post is going to be short and sweet, but lemme tell ya, what a brilliant idea!
My family went to visit my grandparents last year over Thanksgiving, and before we left for our 8-hour trek back home, my grandma pulled me aside and gave me a clipping from a house plant she had in her kitchen. She had clipped a portion of it and put it in water so it could start to regenerate roots before we’d arrived. My grandma explained that several of the grandkids (there are 12 of us!) and other family members already had pieces of the house plant. My instructions were to take it home, pot it and let it start growing, then to pass along a clipping of it to my sister.
How easy is that?!
I decided to use a water pitcher that used to belong to my mom to plant it in (thanks, Mom!), and it now sits on the kitchen counter where I see it everyday.
Here is what I think about and feel when I look at this special plant:
- I think about what thoughtful and loving grandparents I have! They gave me a living, growing piece of their home to infuse into our home!
- The green of the plant makes me feel energized, and happy to be able to cultivate a small piece of God’s creation.
- It makes me more conscious of taking advantage of simple acts of kindness. Sharing the clippings of the house plant didn’t cost my grandma anything. She simply saw an opportunity to do good and create a legacy, and jumped on it!
I’d encourage you to follow this example, or find a way of your own to creatively pass along the simple joy of living to your friends and family!
“Your love has given me great joy and encouragement, because you, brother, have refreshed the hearts of the Lord’s people.” Philemon 1:7
